About Me
How I Got Started In Singing
The Lord truly does work in Mysterious ways
I can’t ever remember not having music in my life. My mom and
dad both sang in the choir at church, and mom used to sing to me
during my recovery from a life threatening illness in my childhood.
Of which I was not supposed to survive, but God had other plans.
I remember Mom putting together a backyard talent show when I
was five, my sister and I sang and done skits that mom put
together. Money was tight back then and we charged a penny to
get into the show. Singing always came easy but I had a hard time
doing it in front of anyone, I always had to hide behind the scenes
or someone to feel secure or safe.
All through school my Music teachers wanted me to sing solos but I
just couldn’t.
Because times were tough I figured out how to make a dollar early
in life and went down that path rather than doing much with the
talent God gave me. I married Kay in 1966 at a ripe old age of 17
and got busy with raising a family immediately. That left little time
for anything else, but I wouldn’t have done it any differently the
way things have turned out.
After 25 years in management at Ralston Purina, Kay & I bought a
bowling Alley and got busy trying to make a go of it. We made
many improvements based on input from our customers and one was
to put in a Banquet Room/Dance Floor/Entertainment area. We
started to have karaoke on Sat. nights and because people knew I
could sing they wanted to hear me on stage. At first this was very
difficult for me to get up in front of people and sing but over time
I became more comfortable in front of our customers.
I always sang in the choir at Church but very rarely done solos,
after getting more comfortable in front of our customers in the
lounge I started doing more solos at church although I felt very
insecure and so nervous I thought I wouldn’t be able to go through
with it at times.
Now I go to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home once a month and
do the music ministry besides singing solos at church whenever
needed. I absolutely am thrilled and Blessed that the Lord has
given me the courage to share the talent that He has blessed me
with. My only regret is that I didn’t start sooner, but I guess it’s
true, good things come to those who wait for God’s time.
Finding the Music soundtracks to sing to is a challenge, and I have
been so blessed to find a Man that is in my octave range and has
34 albums and soundtracks out in which I can sing to.
So the Lord does work IN Mysterious Ways, I found my courage
singing to a group of slightly impaired none Judgmental people in
our lounge. He has enabled me to get up the nerves to sing in front
of His Saints in Church, Rest Homes, Public places, or wherever
they may be.
Now my Only Hope is that I am Glorifying His Name in Doing So.
God Bless All Who listens to these songs and I pray that they will
bless and reach into your heart as they have mine. The words to
these songs are so convicting; with a message in every one all we
have to do is listen.
A Lot Has Changed in recent years
Since Kays passing in September 2017, Lots has changed. My music ministry has
expanded and blossomed. Prayed a lot after Kay's passing and realized I did not
want to spend the rest of my life alone and asked the Lord if He had someone in
mind for me, help me find her.
In March of 2018 my prayers were answered and for the first time on a cold
rainy night in March at the lake property I spoke to by phone who was to be my
future wife, Sandy. On April 25th 2018 we met face to face for the first time; we
had Lunch at the Olive Garden. From there our relationship blossomed. We got
married on July 27th 2019. The whole family on both sides was there, 65 in all.
Sandy is a fine Christian woman and has helped me with Chapels since. I used to
do all the music and singing and some scripture readings, and I had two retired
ministers’ help with the message. Now that we live in new locations Sandy has
helped with contacting new Senior Citizens homes to expand our outreach.
Sandy also helps at every chapel with the music and sound system, Computer
work and Does the Devotionals.
I feel blessed and honored to be able to continue with the Lords work through
the music ministry with the new found Love of my life, Sandy Harken- Jennings
